Working where I do at Walter Reed I see a lot of injured Service Members (not just soldier's) and their perspective family members. I've been touch by one woman in particular. At a time when I was struggling about whether this was the right decision, to have left my old job to come here, she came into my life and made me see that I was placed here for a reason. It might be the fact that I'm the newbie in this office so my compassion level is a lot higher than every one elses, it may be that she just needed a listening ear, and some words of encouragement (which my mom says I'm pretty good at.) Who knows what it is but I am so incredibly happy that I met her and could be of any, if even a little, comfort for her.
I ask that you all just take a look at the blog about Billy and pray for him and his family. http://billy-cooter-mccotter.blogspot.com/ They are going through so much and it makes it even harder during the holidays.
I do not have any words of wisdom, nor do I think that I can advise people about what to do in their individual situations but what I can say is try to have compassion, and try to think about where others may be coming from before you react. Your attitude, reaction, and demeanor can affect people even if you don't think so. It may not be what you do per se but who you encounter and how you touch their lives. Just some food for thought.
