It's all in the details

WARNING: I'm about to be that girl. Bare with all the mushiness, I'm incredibly happy.
Yuck I know.

Friday I left work early and headed to Pinehurst, NC to visit my best friend for the weekend. My wonderful boyfriend hadn't seen me the day before and wasn't going to see me until Sunday, so he met me at the gas station while I filled up my tank. It was seriously only like 5 minutes together, and before I drove off he went to his car and came back with a cup full of red Gerber daises along with a card. It was so incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I couldn't stop smiling all the way down there.

I think it's the little things that count. The love is in the details. I mean sure, it's important to know the BIG things too, but to really know and love someone you have to get to know the idiosyncrasies that make them them. The slight twitch they get when they're a little nervous, how they'll try your iced coffee every time but will still hate it, or the way you have to brace yourself for that jump hug you get when you haven't seen them in a while.
(3 separate shout outs!)

Getting to know the details is the fun, intimate part to any relationship whether it is romantic or friendly. I love when people know little things, and when I in turn know the little things about them. It means you're invested and that you care enough to pay attention.
Ok so now onto my girls weekend with my incredible best friend Megan.
(Walt, without you there are a lot of self-timer pictures)

So this is me and Meg in a romantic little booth at the Darling House. It's a quaint little Scottish themed restaurant in downtown Pinehurst. When the waitress asked us if it was alright we couldn't see the whole thing, so we didn't know that in fact this booth was not alright. We sat and it looks like a normal booth, except it isn't. There was no other side to it; the table was flush against the wall.  Although we did get our very own flat screen to watch.  This was the first of many self-timed shots, taken the Steve way (the ceiling, and the people real little at the bottom...lol.)

After dinner we went to the grocery store to use the Redbox to rent a movie, and pick up apples to make a dump cake.  We did no research and we don't have iphones, so we pretty much stood in front of the multitude of apples pondering what we should do, questioning one another's choice in apples.  Why the Red Delicious over Pink Lady we asked each other, both not knowing our reasoning behind either choice. In the end we chose 2 of a couple different kinds.

Once home, we did face masks, baked our apple creation (which turned out pretty yummy) painted nails, and Megan fell asleep watching Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past. I would have fallen asleep too but Matthew McConaughey is sexy...even though his acting and the movie was terrible.

Saturday was fabulous.

On our Saturday morning ritual walk.

At the Holly Arts and Crafts Fair in downtown Pinehurst.

Then we painted pottery. I have no idea why I have never done this before. After I got over the whole I'm not an artist, this is going to turn out hideously mindset, I had a lot of fun with it. I can't wait for Megan to bring up my bowl when she comes for Halloween.

And now my favorite picture.
We carved pumpkins, and made a competition out of it. Megan maintains that she won, however I disagree. My goal is to carve 4 pumpkins in the month of October. I'm well on my way, and think the goal is achievable.  Megan was intense while carving did a rather good job (but not better than me...lol.)
I had a wonderful relaxing weekend with my best friend. I am so lucky to have an amazing person to go visit, and an amazing person to come home to.
