Restaurant Week!

Its restaurant week in DC, which means fabulous dining for a set price. For $20.09 you enjoy a three-course meal for lunch and $35.09 is the fixed price for dinner. Around 180 restaurants in the DC area participate. My friend Kolleen and I decided to take advantage of this and go out last night to Jaleo in Crystal City. Jaleo serves tapas. Even though I have traveled to Spain I had no idea what they were. Essentially they are appetizers, and you can combine different ones to create an entire meal. Kolleen and I decided to order something different for each course so we could sample a variety.

Here is what we ordered from the Restaurant Week Menu:

Course 1-
Mushroom soup with Idiazabal cheese
and
Toasted slices of rustic bread brushed with fresh tomatoes with Pasamontes farmhouse Manchego cheese

Course 2-
Seared piquillo peppers filled with goat cheese
and
Grilled asparagus with romesco sauce

Course 3-
Sliced, fried fingerling potatoes topped with a spicy tomato sauce and aliolo
and
Shrimp sautéed with garlic and guindilla pepper

Course 4-
Seared salmon over sautéed vegetables
and
Pork loin with roasted onion and cabrales sauce

Dessert-
Chocolate tort with hazelnuts

(beautiful eclectic decor)

I must say it was delicious and although I didn’t think it would be filling, it was. We got a better deal because at Jaleo they gave us a 5 course meal which included dessert. If you have the time today or this weekend, look at the website
http://washington.org/restaurantwk/ and pick out a restaurant to go to. I suggest picking something that you normally wouldn’t go to because of price, and enjoy! It’s a great deal, but it ends on Sunday so take full advantage. I had a wonderful time exploring a new restaurant and great conversation with a good friend!
